Está Escrito Satellite Series Reaches the Spanish-Speaking World
From March 15-22, Pastor Robert Costa and the Está Escrito team traveled to La Paz, Bolivia, to hold a series of meetings in conjunction with 2,500 churches around the world.
During this time, two satellite networks—the Nuevo Tiempo Network and the Hope Network—shared the meetings with millions of Spanish-speaking people in scores of countries. The nightly messages reached churches in North and South America, the Caribbean Islands, Western Europe, North Africa, the Philippines and other Asian nations where Hispanics are living and working.
“It’s not about the multitudes; I preach to the individuals,” said Pastor Costa, “to the elderly man sitting in front of me or the viewer watching in a local church. I try to connect with that person’s heart, because that’s where the gospel has its power.”
We do not yet know the full impact of this series, although we do know that 3,750 people have already made decisions for Christ and have been baptized. In addition, here are some stories from the event:
Antonio and Ana were on the verge of divorce. Ana had been studying the Bible, but Antonio wanted nothing to do with God or the church. Ana decided to pray for her husband three times a day for one month, asking God to touch his heart. Slowly she began to see a change, and when the satellite series began, they both attended faithfully every night. On the last night of the meetings, in front of thousands in the coliseum and over the airwaves, Ana and Antonio were baptized together, as a public testimony of what prayer can do. They emerged from the water victorious, and tearfully hugged under the thundering applause of the crowd.
Juan is an electrical engineer who came to know the Lord through the Está Escrito program. Every week he looked forward to hearing more about the Word of God through the presentations of Pastor Costa. He also visited the Está Escrito website for materials and Bible studies, which he downloaded and shared with friends. When he found out that Pastor Costa would be holding a live satellite series in La Paz, Bolivia, only three hours away from where he lived, he decided not to miss a single meeting. Every day, despite his job and busy schedule, he traveled the three hours to the coliseum. He, too, was baptized on the final night of the meetings. “I didn’t come because I was having problems in my life…I came because I was hungering to know more about God and felt the need for His presence in my life,” said Juan, his face radiant with the love of God.
A visitor summed up the feelings of those attending when he was overheard making this comment as he entered the coliseum: “I feel like a king whenever I come in. There is such warmth here. I feel so welcome and loved. I have no doubt that the presence of God is in this place.”
